With Australian GP win Sebastian Vettel makes the right start for the ‘drinks company’

Sebastain Vettel drove like a defending champion to win for the ‘drinks company’ Australian GP – the very first race of the Formula 1 2011 season, and that too from the pole position. And almost expectedly the originator of the phrase ‘drinks company’ Lewis Hamilton was not too far behind and finished 2nd to give defending constructor’s champion Red Bull the taste of kind of competition they should expect this season.

Unfortunately even after this kind of a start both Red Bulls and McLaren Mercedes would be a little disappointed as well since their second drivers didn’t really have a very impressive race. This sentiment with more profound emotions would be reverberating in Michael Schumacher’s, Rubens Barichello’s and many other driver’s teams too since many of them including the former could not even finish the race.

New rules delay Narain Karthikeyan’s return

On a whole Australian GP which only accidentally became the first race of the season was as interesting as most of the Forumla 1 races are and at times was even more especially since it saw almost all the new rules coming into play- needless to say expectedly KERS did make an impression.

Narain Karthikeyan and his team Hispania became a victim of the new rules after qualifying rounds since they fell (way) outside the 107% rule. They pleaded to be given an exception- something that is allowed, but were denied.

A great season ahead

Going by the way drivers and their cars behaved today, the best outcome of the race is the cut-throat competition we are for sure going to see in the remaining 18 races (number could be anything at the end of the year) of the Formula 1 2011 season.
